Trachelospermum jasminoides
Plant Type: FillerPlant Size: depends on use 3m spread
One of our most favourite and therefore often used plants. The Star Jasmine (don't let the name put you off) suits so many situations and has so many good qualities that you'll get hooked on this plant too.
Features: Evergreen, well behaved, climber with dark glossy leaves tinged red in winter. Masses of small, scented, star shaped, white flowers adorn this plant throughout summer
Uses: Well....as stated above this is a climber although a helping hand is needed to get it going, great strung along wires to screen a boundary fence. Also useful as a ground cover with any wayward tendrils pinned to the ground or grown over a small structure e.g. chicken mesh, can be successfully trained as a small hedge or pyramid topiaries in pots
Combinations: with a deciduous climber with contrasting flowers e.g. roses, scrambling around the base of Hemerocallis 'Joan Senior' or massed with Dietes grandiflora
Care: minimal maintenance required, occasionally aphid infestations although not much damage seems to occur
