General Information
The only NZ native palm and our favourite. The Nikau palm is very slow growing with the fronds developing a long time before a trunk is even formed. We place this plant in pots where is makes an eye catching specimen. Features: Long fronds that form from a rounded base, flowers are purple-ish and red berries follow Uses: Pot plants, as specimens in a tropical garden, grouped around natural looking water features Combinations: Arthropodium cirratum, Astelia banksii, Carex secta Care: Keep the base well mulched to provide a cool root run, don’t transplant, will tolerate light frosts
